Building a successful digital marketing strategy

A successful digital marketing strategy leads your company to high revenues at the end of a fiscal year. Thus, it is extremely important to ensure that the strategy built is on the right track. Regardless of being a beginner or even experienced marketer, here are the top ten rules to build a successful digital marketing strategy.

Rule 1: Be well prepared

Before you execute a marketing strategy, prepare a brief that contains the budget, objectives, purpose and sales target. This very same rule applies in practically every medium.

Bear in mind to research, research and research. Find out customers’ spending behaviour, persona, and attitude, level of income as well as other demographics. Next up, you may prepare the brief according to your target audiences’ demographics.
Other elements worth considering are your competitors’ strength and weaknesses as well as their marketing strategy.

Rule 2: Decide the right medium for your marketing campaign

After preparing the brief and selecting your group of target audience, you need to decide the right medium for the campaign. Include other interactive features to drive traffic to your campaign.
For example, you may incorporate videos, blogs, games, or even promote and advertise your brand or service via social networks or mobile marketing. Conducted right, it is in fact a rather fruitful and rewarding experience. Give the people a good reason to check out your marketing campaign.

Rule 3: Decide your objectives

It is extremely important to decide what your company is trying achieve through the campaign. Your objectives may vary from building awareness among the people, maximizing profits and annual sales, building and organizing the customers’ list into systematic database or even simply to change the perception towards your brand.
Deciding what your company is trying to achieve serves as a motivation for you and the team of staffs. When executing the marketing campaign, you can then focus solely on the specific objective (s) only.

Rule 4: Give incentives

If your company has decided to create buzz to attract people’s attention, allocate a reasonable amount of budget for the freebies. It is always good to give incentives or benefits to the public to generate the buzz.
Besides that, encourage the people to share the freebies. The more freebies you provide for the public, the easier it is for you to build reputation for the product or service. And bear in mind giving away freebies is a powerful form of word-of-mouth advertising.

Rule 5: Carry on your practice of interaction with the masses on a regular basis

Since blogs and social networks emerged as the most effective and low-cost marketing tool, one should utilize it wisely. Usually, most companies set the duration for each update in the blog and social networks.
If your company has decided to start a conversation and keep them updated once a week, ensure you carry on with the practice and follow-up if necessary. In addition to that, you can also select and appoint a team of staffs to monitor the progress of the blog and social networks.
Remove any malicious comments and feedbacks, as it will damage your company’s reputation.

Rule 6: Work with those who have good records

If your company has previously worked with the audience or bloggers with good records in the past, you can consider involving them in the upcoming campaign. Ask for their opinion and comments to refine and improve on the current marketing strategy.

Rule 7: Allocate some time and let the campaign progress

Bear in mind that a marketing campaign may take as long as six months to take root and grow. Therefore, if your company has decided to release the new product or service in mid-year, start the marketing campaign from the beginning of the year to create buzz for the product.

Rule 8: Prepare back-up contents (for emergency use only)

You have to remember that this is an on-going campaign. Thus, prepare enough content for the sustainable campaign to keep the readers updated from time to time. Release some content throughout the month of campaign..

Rule 9: Keep track of the campaign

Place a team of staffs in every department to keep track and monitor the campaign. Check out the progress from time to time. You may amend the campaign if found errors and mistakes.

Rule 10: Prepare a back-up plan.

Even though you think the existing campaign is the best ever, do prepare a back-up plan to support the first campaign.
